Rochele's been buggin' me like little rock in my shoe about going back to the States this summer to work a job. It's my fault really. Friends of mine here, Tom & Lynn, did something similar with their kids and I thought it was pretty wise. It gives kids growing up in a foreign culture a chance to better prepare for what awaits them in the U.S. before they move on. So I told Rochele we'd do the same with her.
Eatin' my words now, I am. What was I thinking? I just said goodbye to Stefani last summer and now I'm going to send Rochele away for 3 months? I don't think so.
Well, uh, I do think so, 'cuz I already told her so. Kinda hard to take it back, I guess.
Rochele is leaving in mid-May to head back to Gig Harbor, Washington to be a nanny for a family there. It's the same family that hosted her last year when she was in Washington to see a specialist about her RSD. Now that she's doing much better she wants to go back. She fell in love with the place, and the people there, and she got a good job offer. So, how can I say no? Who would have known when Pastor Chris Bayar walked into my office on a fluke almost three years ago that his family would end up having such a dramatic impact on my daughter's life?
Of course she'll be back in September. But that will leave only 9 months left with her until she makes her permanent move back to the U.S. One thing she's made clear to us is that she is NOT moving to Arizona. So I suggested New Mexico. Nope. She doesn't want to go there either. Crud. What did I do wrong?
I guess my traveling ways are coming back to bite me in my flat white behind. All my girls are going to end up at different points on the globe, forcing me to spend major bucks to go see them after they grow up.
