This is my friend, Erdenbayar. He came to me a few weeks ago asking for help with his prison ministry. He ministers to the men at Maint Prison in Mongolia. He's a former prisoner himself. After Christ transformed his life he decided to return to prison to help the men there discover the love and forgiveness available through Jesus.
Erdenbayar is raising money to build toilet facilities for the prison. This sounds a little strange, doesn't it? You'd think the government would provide something so basic as toilet facilities in a prison. In fact the prison does have toilet facilities, but it's not what you think. The "facilities" are outside in the open, amounting to nothing more than a long ditch on which there are two wooden planks. Men fall into the ditch constantly. They must do their business out in the open—even in the worst weather conditions that Mongolia throws at them in the subzero winter.
What makes matters worse is that the land in the yard used for the bathroom facilities is totally used up. As the long ditch fills, it is covered over, the wood planks are moved a few feet and a new ditch is dug. Over the years the entire usable space in the prison yard has been used. There is no more usable space.
Erdenbayar came to me, his heart touched to help the men in prison with a proper, clean, toilet facility instead of the disease promoting, open-air ditches into which the men constantly fall. Problem: The facilities will cost $15,000 to build.
The facility has already been professionally designed. The prison is cooperating so that the facilities can be built. All that is needed is the money.
As part of our new Eagle Cares effort, Eagle TV pledged $1,000 in matching money to help Erdenbayar launch his fund raising effort to get the toilet facilities built quickly. In the last month he's been able to raise $4,000—all locally. It's a wonderful start, but he needs more help so he can get these men what they need.
If you'd like to help with this project, email me and let me know. We are committed to helping Erdenbayar as much as we can so that he can continue to make a difference in the lives of the men he is ministering to in Mongolian prison.
